UNESCO helps preserve My Son relics

Quang Nam (VNA) – Central Quang Nam province has launched phase two of the project on the preservation of My Son World Cultural Relics with the help of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

The project to preserve My Son is funded by the Italian government with 435,000 USD in non-refundable aid and 19,000 USD from the Vietnamese government.

The second phase of the project aims to complete the restoration of G1 tower, the most important relic in My Son, while continuing to train local archaeologists, architects, experts and managers in preservation and management workers.

In addition, the project will also build a database for long-term preservation and a detailed presentation for each tower.

The first phase of the project focused on making geographical maps for the My Son site.

The My Son relics were built by the Cham ethnic people between the 4th and the 13th centuries in Duy Xuyen district, the central province of Quang Nam. The elements and war have heavily damaged the relics, especially the G towers.
