Senior Buddhist monk helps promote Vietnam
Hanoi (VNA) – Senior Buddhist monk Thich Huyen Dieu – founder of Vietnamese pagodas in India and Nepal – met with local Buddhist followers in Hanoi on July 11.
During the meeting, made at the invitation of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, the monk said he hoped for future Vietnam Days in India , and vice versa, to help Vietnamese Buddhist followers have closer access to the birthplace of Buddhism.
The two Phat Quoc Tu pagodas built by Thich Huyen Dieu in India and Nepal are said to help promote the image of Vietnam in the sacred sites of Buddhism.
The first pagoda was built in India’s Bodhgaya, where it is believed Buddha attained supreme Enlightenment. So far, three other Vietnamese pagodas have been set up in this area.
The second one was built in Lumbini of Nepal, becoming the first foreign pagoda in the birthplace of the Buddha. The pagoda made the senior monk the first foreigner in Nepal to be granted land for building a pagoda.
So far, this sacred land is home to pagodas of more than 20 countries.
The Buddhist monk presented to local followers his two books published by the Ho Chi Minh City Culture and Art Publishing House.
