Education Ministry honours Australian, NZ envoys

The Ministry of Education and Training has presented insignia “For the Cause of Education” to Australian Ambassador William Thomas Ross Tweddell and New Zealand Ambassador James Loudon Kember.

Hanoi (VNA) – The insignia was the country’s recognition of the two ambassadors’ efforts and contributions to the cooperation between Vietnam and their countries, particularly in education and training, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thien Nhan at a ceremony in Hanoi on Sept. 5.

Taking his office in Vietnam , the Australian Ambassador helped develop two scholarship programmes, Australian Leader Award and Endeavour, which helped 94 Vietnamese go abroad for study in 2007.

These two scholarship programmes and the Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) for postgraduate represented for one-third of Australia’s total aid to Vietnam.

The ambassador also made contributions to the signing of an agreement on education-training cooperation between Vietnam and Australia in early 2008.

Over recent years, New Zealand’s aid to Vietnam’s education and training has been increasing. The country assisted Vietnam in teaching English for officials, and organised international seminars to help the country train 20,000 doctor-degree holders by 2020, develop vocational training system, and set up centres for forecasting human resource demands.
