State President meets with HCM City’s voters

HCM City (VNA) – State President Nguyen Minh Triet expressed his concerns over the worries of Ho Chi Minh City’s voters relating to land requisition and compensation, social security, environmental pollution and the weak management of the civil authorities.

At a meeting with voters of HCMC’s districts 1 and 2 on Oct. 7 in preparation for the upcoming fourth session of the 12th National Assembly, President Triet asked local authorities and relevant agencies to attach importance to meeting with the locals to clearly understand their difficulties, thus hammering out good ways for their petitions.

Local authorities should hold more dialogues with voters, listening to their opinions and considering it an important and high-priority task, he said.

However, voters should stand side by side with authorities at all levels, and work together with them to deal with any shortcomings caused by insufficient legal systems and administrative procedures, Triet said.

The State President also stressed the necessity of strict punishment for companies found to be discharging polluted waste into the environment, such as the Taiwanese-owned company Vedan.

Responding to voters’ questions about anti-corruption tasks, President Triet reiterated the importance of the people’s involvement in the fight against the evil.
