PM Dung’s tour to France, US a success: FM

(Vietnamplus - 29/09/2013) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on September 29 arrived in Ha Noi, successfully concluding his official visit to France and his tour to the United States to attend the general debate of the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh granted an inclusive interview to journalists who accompanied the Vietnamese delegation.

Regarding the outcomes of PM Dung’s visit to France from September 24-26 at the invitation of his French counterpart Jean-Marc Ayrault, FM Minh said the visit is of significant importance, as it not only coincides with the 40 th anniversary of the Viet Nam-France diplomatic ties but also is a historical milestone with a strategic partnership agreement signed by the two leaders.

The new strategic partnership is an evidence for the strong political will of leaders of both countries to deepen their traditional friendship, historical attachment and multifaceted cooperation, he said.

Viet Nam’s establishment of the strategic partnership with France also makes contribution to enhancing cooperation between Asia and Europe and between ASEAN and the European Union in particular, the diplomat said.

FM Minh expressed his deep belief that on the basis of the strategic partnership, with high political resolve of the two countries’ leaders and great efforts by their ministries, branches, localities and business communities, the fine friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation between Viet Nam and France will yield new fruits, meeting each people’s aspiration.

According to the minister, following the France visit, PM Dung made a trip to the US from September 25-27 to attend the general debate of the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

During his stay in the US, PM Dung also held bilateral meetings with representatives of the US administration and businesses, and several international financial and monetary organisations, he said.

FM Minh described PM Dung’s participation in general debate of the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York as an important multilateral diplomatic activity of Viet Nam this year to realise the country’s proactive foreign policy and active integration.

At the session, the Vietnamese Government leader delivered a speech that calls on leaders of UN member states to strive for a world free from war and hunger for the benefit of the whole humanity.

He added that on this occasion, the PM reiterated Viet Nam’s commitment to taking part in the United Nations peace-keeping missions as well as the country’s readiness to contribute to the common task of the international community in an active, constructive and responsible manner.

FM Minh said that the UN Secretary-General and leaders of the UN agencies spoke highly of Viet Nam’s achievements in and contributions to realising the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), especially on poverty reduction.

They affirmed to continue to support Viet Nam during its national socio-economic development process, he added.

At the meetings with PM Dung, representatives of US administration expressed wish to strengthen practical cooperation with Viet Nam in specific areas, especially economics, trade and investment, in line with the two countries’ comprehensive partnership.

At a dialogue with PM Dung, leading US businesses also showed their interest in Viet Nam’s current economic policy and solutions as well as the country’s business and investment environment, Minh said, adding this manifests that Viet Nam continues to be an attractive destination for the US business circle.

FM Minh said PM Dung’s tour to the US to attend the general debate of the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly was a success, contributing to enhancing Viet Nam’s image and its international position.
