Vietnam welcomes any research project aimed at detoxicating, diagnosing and treating Agent Orange/Dioxin victims in Vietnam

ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENTS BY MR. LE DZUNG, THE SPOKESMAN

OF THE VIETNAMESE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS ON 21st MARCH 2005

Question from Tuoi Tre Newspaper: Please provide Vietnam's reaction to the US cancelation of a research programme on Agent Orange/Dioxin's effects ?

Answer:

According to relevant Vietnamese agencies, the US side has unilaterally ended the joint research program of Agent Orange/Dioxin effects previously agreed with Vietnam.

We are of the view that it is an extremely urgent humanitarian issue to resolve the effects of Agent Orange/Dioxin used by the US army in the Vietnam War. Vietnam is willing to cooperate with scientists in the world, including those from the US, to research and resolve the damage and effects of Agent Orange as well as to exchange ideas and agree on cooperation plans in this field.

In Vietnam's opinion, while scientific research is underway, it is an urgent task to launch relief and effect-mitigation activities for the victims. Vietnam welcomes any research project aimed at detoxicating, diagnosing and treating Agent Orange/Dioxin victims in Vietnam./.
