1.Question: Would you please inform us of the timing and schedule of the visit by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Gia Khiem to the Russian Federation in mid-September 2008. Which Russian leaders will the Deputy Prime Minister meet? How does Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs view this visit?
Answer:
At the invitation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Gia Khiem will pay an official visit to the Russian Federation from 13th – 16th September 2008.
The Deputy Prime Minister’s visit to the Russian Federation is to enhance and develop the strategic partnership, promote the effectiveness of the multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.
During the visit, the Deputy Prime Minister will hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, call on high-ranking leaders of the Russian Federation. On this occasion, Mr. Pham Gia Khiem will attend the opening ceremony of “The Vietnamese Culture Days in Russia”, meet Vietnamese community and enterprises in Russia and visit Saint Petersburg.
2. Question: Please give us information about the upcoming visit of United States First Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte and the topics to be discussed at bilateral meetings in Hanoi?

United States First Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte will visit Vietnam from 10th – 14th September 2008. During the visit, the First Deputy Secretary of State will meet Vietnamese leaders and work with some ministries, branches of Vietnam to exchange views on measures to further enhance the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
