Concerning the complaint at 178 Nguyen Luong Bang Street

MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS' SPOKESMAN MR.LE DZUNG
ANSWERS QUESTION ON 18 SEPTEMBER 2008

Question: Concerning the claim for land - use right over a plot at 178 Nguyen Luong Bang Street, Hanoi, do you think that there will be a solution satisfactory to both the church and the authorities?

Answer:

The illegal occupation of the plot at 178 Nguyen Luong Bang Street constitutes an act in violation of the law, of sabotage against State property and creates public disorder.

The People’s Committee of Hanoi and that of Dong Da District have been making great efforts to settle the case, unswervingly persuading the organizers of and participants in the complaint to stop their wrong doings. If the Thai Ha parish wishes to have land for religious purposes, it should complete formalities, observe provisions of the law, and report its wish to competent State authorities for consideration.

All problems arising from the complaint by the Thai Ha parish will be resolved in line with the provisions of Vietnamese laws.
