I. ANNOUCEMENT

+ Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dzung to officially visit the Commonwealth of Australia from 13 to 14 October 2008

At the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dzung will make an official visit to Australia from 13 to 14 October 2008. This will be his first visit to Australia in the capacity as Vietnamese Prime Minister.
The visit is to further enhance and develop the friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries, lift their bilateral relationship to a new height. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dzung will discuss measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation, international and regional issues of mutual interest.

+ Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan to lead a Vietnamese delegation to the 12th Summit of French-Speaking Countries in Quebec, Canada and officially visit the Republic of Cuba from 14 to 24 October 2008

Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan will lead the Vietnamese delegation to the 12th Summit of French-Speaking Countries to be held from 17 to 19 October 2008 in Quebec, Canada.
The Summit will focus on 4 topics in round-table discussion: the French language; peace, democracy and the rule of law; economic solidarity; environment. Additionally, the Summit will also touch upon some international and regional issues, membership and regulatory changes of the Community.
After attending the 12th Summit of French-Speaking Countries, at the invitation of Vice President of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, the Vietnamese Vice President will pay an official visit to Cuba from 22 to 24 October 2008. The visit is to further cement friendship, cooperation, and special, time-honored solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba.

+ President of the Hellenic Republic of Greece to visit Vietnam from 11 to 16 October 2008

At the invitation of President Nguyen Minh Triet, the President of the Hellenic Republic of Greece Karolos Papoulias will visit Vietnam from 11 to 16 October 2008.
The visit is to further enhance relations between Vietnam and Greece in the trade, investment, development cooperation, culture, education and technological science, among others.

+ The fourth Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Viet Nam (CLMV- 4) and the third Ayeyawady - Chao Phraya - Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS - 3) Summits in Hanoi on 6 and 7 November 2008.

The Fourth Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Viet Nam (CLMV- 4) Summit and the Third Ayeyawady - Chao Phraya - Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS - 3) Summit will be held in Hanoi on 6 and 7 November 2008.
These two Summits have taken on special significance to the cooperation, development of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. They are going to be held with a view to making new positive changes in promoting cooperation among them on the basis of each country’s strengths, and ushering in a new period of development in the cooperation of ACMECS and CLMV.

II. QUESTION AND ANSWER:

Question: Please confirm the news reported by Hanoi Moi that on 14 and 15 October 2008, the People’s Court of Hanoi will put two former public security officers and two journalists of Thanh Nien and Tuoi Tre newspapers on trial? If there is a such trial, can correspondents attend it?

Answer:
As I know, the trial over two plaintiffs who are former public security officers and two plaintiffs who are former correspondents will soon be opened.
Correspondents who wish to cover the trial please send your request to the Department of Information and Press, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However the People’s Court will decide if they can attend the trial or not.
