A fire broke out on August 22, 2009 at the EACC trade center in Wolka Kosowska, Poland, causing heavy losses of property to the Vietnamese people doing business in the center. Polish fire fighters quickly responded and within half a day controled the fire. No death is reported. The incident is being investigated by Polish authorities. Following is the statement by Vietnamese Foreign Affairs Ministry's Spokeswoman Nguyen Phuong Nga on August 25th, 2009:
“We express our deep sympathy to the Vietnamese community in Poland, especially those who have been suffering losses caused by the fire at the EACC trade center in Wolka Kosowska, Poland on August 22, 2009.
Upon learning about the incident, leaders of the Vietnamese Embassy in Poland and local Vietnamese associations visited and consoled the affected people and coordinated efforts to cope with the aftermaths. We highly appreciate the efforts by the local authorities to deal with the fire and their assistance to the Vietnamese community at the EACC trade centre.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed the Embassy in Poland to work closely with relevant agencies and the Vietnamese Association in Poland to take immediate measures to assist the Vietnamese victims.
We believe that our fellow Vietnamese in Poland will, with tradition of mutual assistance and solidarity and in cooperation with the EACC management and local authorities, quickly work out effective solutions, to help affected people stabilize their life and bring the center back to the normal operation./.”
