On May 17th, 2010, in response to query from the media for updated information on the situation of three Vietnamese who are reportedly working on Taiwanese Tai Yuan 227 ship recently held hostage by Somali pirates off the Indian Ocean, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nguyen Phuong Nga said: "As the report of the hijack came out, Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has identified the three Vietnamese workmen contracted with Tai Yuan 227 of Taiwan. The Ministry has assigned Vietnam's Nigeria Embassy to fetch information of the incident and work with relevant international authorities as well as regional countries on expedite measures to rescue the Vietnamese crewmen, if their case is confirmed." |
