ANNOUNCEMENTS:
- The World Economic Forum on East Asia 2010 in Vietnam (June 6th- 7th, 2010)
The World Economic Forum on East Asia 2010 - WEF East Asia 2010, will take place in Ho Chi Minh City on June 6th - 7th, 2010. This is the first time Vietnam hosts the Forum's most important regional event. 450 participants, including Heads of regional governments, representatives of world leading corporates, scholars and the media, are expected to attend the event.
Under the theme “Enhancing the Asia's leadership”, the conference will focus on four main topics, namely, Asia’s leadership; Global risks; Roadmap for Asia's green growth; and Roadmap for Asia's future growth. Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will delivery the opening remark.
The Forum Organizers will hold an international press conference at 10.00 a.m on Thursday, June 3rd, 2010, at the Governmental Guest House, 12 Ngo Quyen street, Hanoi.
- The mid-term meeting of the Consultative Group for Vietnam in Kien Giang province (June 9th – 10th, 2010)
The Consultative Group (CG) will hold its mid-term Meeting on June 9th – 10th, 2010 in Rach Gia city, Kien Giang province. The CG meeting will focus on the following topics:
+ Assessment of Vietnam's macro-economic situation and Policy priorities for 2010;
+ The National Socio-economic Development Strategy 2011 – 2020 and the National Socio-economic Development Plan 2011 - 2015;
+ Responses to climate change challenge in the Mekong River Delta;
+ The National Economic Restructuring: reforms to boost the growth efficiency and aids for infrastructure development;
+ Vietnam's comprehensive growth: evaluation of the country's implementation of the Millennium Development Goals and the social protection.
- The 2nd ASEAN - Gulf Cooperation Council Ministerial Meeting (ASEAN – GCC) in Singapore, May 31st - June 1st, 2010
Vietnam Deputy Prime Minister - Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem will attend the the 2nd ASEAN – GCC Ministerial Meeting in Singapore from May 31st to June 1st, 2010. At the meeting, the ministers will review the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the ASEAN Secretariat and the Gulf Cooperation Council; adopt the Plan of Action for ASEAN – GCC Cooperation 2010 – 2012; consider the establishment of ASEAN – GCC Free Trade Area. In addition, the two sides will exchange views on a number of international and regional issues of mutual concerns.
QUESTIONS
Q: Would you please comment on a Xinhua report that China on May 25th, 2010 officially launched a mobilephone network in the Fiery Cross Reef in Truong Sa (Spartly) Archipelogo?
A: We reiterate Vietnam's indisputable sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spartly) Archipelagos. All foreign activities without Vietnam’s authorization in the area of Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spartly) Archipelagos will constitute violation of Vietnam's sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdictions.
We hold that while disputes in the area remain pending for solutions, parties concerned should refrain from actions that could further complicate the situation in the Eastern Sea.
Q: As ASEAN chairman, how does Vietnam respond to the tension between the the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Korea?
A: Vietnam has been following closely the situation and looking into the investigation results. Vietnam’s principle position is that we denounce the use of force in international relations and support peace, stability in the Korean Peninsula. We hope that the Cheonan incident will find a satisfactory settlement for the sake of peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula and the region.
