The 2010 Trafficking in Persons Report of the US State Department not reflect correctly Vietnam’s reality
ANSWERS QUESTION ON 16th JUNE 2010
Question: Please comment on the 2010 Trafficking in Persons Report released by the U.S. State Department?
Answer:
Vietnam lists trafficking in persons, particularly in women and children, as a dangerous crime, which seriously infringes human rights and negatively impacts social progress. Vietnam, therefore, attaches great importance to the prevention of human trafficking, consistently fights and serious punishes this crime while implementing policies and measures to push back and eliminate human trafficking.
The Government of Vietnam has since 2004 put in place a plan of action on prevention and fight against women and children trafficking, with an aim at facilitating changes in awareness and action in the society so as to curb and basically alleviate this problem by 2010. Vietnam is actively cooperating with international organizations, participating in regional and international forum to exchange experience and information and to collaborate in prevention and fight against human trafficking. Vietnam’s efforts in counter-human trafficking have so far created positive impacts on the society and been recognized by international community.
Regrettably, the US State Department 2010 TIF Report contains politically charged and biased comments on Vietnam regardless Vietnam’s effort to make available adequate information.”
