Regular Press Briefing by MOFA’s Spokesperson Nguyen Phuong Nga on 24th March, 2011

1. Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych Visit to Viet Nam March 25th – 27th

President Yanukovych will pay an official visit to Viet Nam, at the invitation of Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet, to strengthen the traditional friendship and the multi-faceted cooperation, especially in economic, trade, educational and training, cultural, scientific and technological areas.

His entourage includes Ministers of Agrarian Policy and Food, of Culture, of Education, Youth and Sports, and Ukrainian businesses.

During the visit, President Yanukovych will hold talks with State President Nguyen Minh Triet, pay a courtesy call on CPV General Secretary and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong, have meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, and address at the Viet Nam – Ukraine Business Forum. The two sides are expected to sign a number of documents creating a legal framework for enhancing the multi-sided relation between the two countries. 

2. Crown Prince Willem Alexander and the Princess Maxima of the Netherlands visit Viet Nam March 27th – 31st.

The Crown Prince and the Princess will pay an official visit to Viet Nam at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem. On his second official visit to Viet Nam (the first was in 2005), the Dutch Prince will be accompanied by State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation Henk Bleker, State Secretary for Infrastructure and Environment Joop Atsma and about 90 major Holland businesses.

During the visit, the delegation is schedule to meet with Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem, and leaders of Vietnamese ministries and industries, pay courtesy calls on Vietnamese leaders, participate in the meeting of Viet Nam – Netherlands Intergovernmental Commission on climate change and water resources management, attend a number of workshops, and meet with Netherlands alumni in Vietnam. The delegation will also visit Ho Chi Minh City, meet with the city leaders and visit businesses.

The visit is an occasion for the two sides to discuss ways and means to promote the bilateral relations, particularly in trade, investment, finance, climate change and water resources management.

3. El Salvador Foreign Minister Hugo Martinez Bonilla visit Vietnam March 30th -  April 2nd

The El Salvador Foreign Minister will pay an official visit  to Vietnam at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem. The visit, the highest – ranking since the two countries established diplomatic relations in January 16, 2010, aims at promoting the bilateral relations. During the visit, Minister Bonilla will have talks with his Vietnamese counterpart, meet leaders of ministries and industries, pay courtesy calls on Vietnamese leaders and visit cultural, historical and economic sites in Hanoi.

How do you comment on the latest decision by the European Commission to stop imposing anti-dumping tariffs on Vietnamese leather-capped shoes?


The European Commission’s decision to lift anti-dumping tariffs against Vietnamese leather shoes by March  31, 2011 corresponds the actual conditions in the Vietnamese leather shoe production and exports, conforms with the common trend of trade liberalization and anti-protectionism, as well as with the positive development in the partnership and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and the European Union
