Remark by Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Spokesman on May 26, 2012

In response to questions from reporters regarding Viet Nam’s comment on the US Department of State’s Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2011, including report on human rights practices in Viet Nam, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi on May 26, 2012 said “Viet Nam – US relations have seen progresses in various fields. The two countries maintain regular dialogues on issues of mutual concern, including human rights. Frank, constructive talks on mutual respect basis have been playing a part in promoting understanding and relations between the two countries, serving the interests of our two peoples.

While recognizing important achievements Viet Nam has made in ensuring rights for her people, the report regrettably contains biased assessments, which are built up on inaccurate information, on human rights practices in Viet Nam”.
