Viet Nam’s reaction to the Chinese Navy’s commemoration on December 8th, 2016 of the so called “the 70th anniversary of recovering Paracel and Spratly islands”

In response to question from the media on Viet Nam’s reaction to the Chinese Navy’s commemoration on December 8th, 2016  of the so called “the 70th anniversary of recovering Paracel and Spratly islands”, MOFA Spokesperson Le Hai Binh on December 12, 2016 said:

Viet Nam has sufficient historical evidences and legal grounds to affirm the sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos, its age-old territories. After the World War II, China’s claim over  the two archipelagos was rejected by the international community.

That action by China will not alter Viet Nam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, goes against the development trend of the relations between the two countries and complicates the situation. Viet Nam is resolutely opposed to it.”
