Regular Press Conference


I. ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Spouse to visit Germany and attend the G20 Summit and to visit the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
At the invitation of Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Spouse will visit Germany and attend the G20 Summit in Hamburg, and to visit the Kingdom of the Netherlands from July 5th to 11th2017.
The visits are aimed at consolidating and strengthening the Strategic Partnership with Germany, promoting the Strategic Partnership on Climate Change Adaptation and Water Management and the Strategic Partnership on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security with the Netherlands; sending a message that Viet Nam is a dynamic country, a trusted and responsible partner in the international community including global economic issues and other issues of international concerns.
In Germany, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc is expected to hold talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel, meet with the President of Germany, leaders of the Parliament, ministries, industries and major businesses of Germany. The Prime Minister will attend the G20 Summit, and to deliver an opening remark at the Viet Nam – Germany Business Forum.
In the Netherlands, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc is expected to hold talks with Prime Minister Mark Rutte, to meet with the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. The Prime Minister will also meet the President of the International Court of Justice, the Secretary-General of the Permanent Court of Arbitration. He will attend the Viet Nam – Netherlands Business Forum, hold roundtable talks and meet with Dutch businesses.
2. DPM, FM Pham Binh Minh to pay an official visit to India and to attend the 9th Delhi Dialogue
At the invitation of Minister of External Affairs of India Sushama Swaraj, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh will pay an official visit to India and attend the 9th Delhi Dialogue from July 3rd to 5th 2017.
DPM, FM Pham Binh Minh’s official visit to India and participation in the 9th Delhi Dialogue is aimed at strengthening the Viet Nam – India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, promoting the bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade-investment, defense-security, consolidating the ASEAN-India cooperation of which Viet Nam is a coordinator; and exchanging views on regional and international issues of common concerns. The visit is part of the commemoration of the Viet Nam – India Friendship Year 2017, the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of Strategic Partnership as well as the 1st anniversary of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
DPM, FM Pham Binh Minh is expected to hold talks with the Minister Sushama Swaraj, attend and deliver an opening remark at the Ministerial Session of the 9th Delhi Dialogue and pay courtesy calls to the high-level leaders of India. He will also meet with Indian businesses and attend the Conference on the 45th anniversary of the Viet Nam – India relations.
II. Q&A:
Q: South Korea’s media reported that a Vietnamese woman was murdered by her South Korean farther-in-law. Could MOFA verify this information? Has the victim been identified?
A:
According to the Embassy of Viet Nam in the Republic of Korea, the victim has been identified as Bui Cat Ha, who was murdered by her farther-in-law in Seongbuk District, Seoul. In the wake of the murder, MOFA immediately instructed the Embassy of Viet Nam in the ROK to speedily work with ROK authorities to verify information relevant to the case. The Embassy reported that Seoul Police have put the suspect in custody. The Embassy has without any delay put in place necessary citizen protection measures, assisting the victim family with paperwork, including death certification and permission for repatriation of the victim remains to Viet Nam. MOFA directed the Embassy to continue following the case closely to ensure that the murder will be brought to justice and that the legitimate interests of Vietnamese citizens be protected.
Q: Please comment on today trial of Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh and the sentence of 8 to 10-year imprisonment as proposed by the Procuracy?

A:
The ongoing trial for Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh is taking place publicly, in accordance with the Vietnamese law. We have not had any information of the verdicts.

Q: Human Rights Watch and some Western governments have urged for the release of Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh. Do you have any comment on that?

A:
Similar to other countries, all acts of law violation in Viet Nam must be strictly handled in accordance with the Vietnamese law. The investigation process for Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh has completed and her trial is ongoing now.
