Remarks by MOFA Spokesperson on the International Religious Freedom Report for 2017 issued by the US Department of State

The consistent policy of Viet Nam is that State respects and protects the right to freedom of religion and belief of its citizens. This is enshrined in the Constitution of Viet Nam 2013 and the national legal system, and in practice is respected and protected.

Viet Nam has been making tireless efforts to refine its legal systems and policies on belief and religion, notably passing of the Law of Belief and Religion and Decrees on the implementation of this law. Belief and religion practices by the people have been preserved with thousands of festivals and religious activities every year.

Viet Nam takes note that the US Department of State has acknowledged in its International Religious Freedom Report for 2017 progresses made by Viet Nam in the protection and promotion religious and belief life. However, it is regrettably that the Report continued to make unobjective assessments, citing disinformation about Viet Nam.
