Information related to a number of Vietnamese labors in Algeria abused by their employers

On 7 October 2015, in response to reporters’ question about a number of Vietnamese labors in Algeria abused by their employers, a representative of the MOFA’ s Consular Department said:

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has promptly instructed the Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria to work with the employers and visit the Vietnamese labors involved to clarify the situation, as well as to undertake necessary measures to protect Vietnamese citizens.

In September 2015, the Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria has, for many times, sent its representatives to the site to learn the situation and visit the Vietnamese labors. They have collaborated with representatives of SIMCO Song Da, the company that sent these Vietnamese labors to Algeria, to demand the employers to settle the case, respect the commitments between the two parties, fully ensure legitimate rights and interests of the Vietnamese citizens involved, including the right to be treated in a humane manner. The Embassy is following closely the incident and will ensure all legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese labors.

We demand the employers to respect and follow the agreements signed with the Vietnamese labor senders, treat Vietnamese labors in an equal and humane manner, and ensure proper working and living conditions for Vietnamese labors.”
