Vietnamese, Lao armies bolster ties

(VNA) - The General Chiefs of Staff of the Vietnamese and Lao armies met in Ha Noi on April 21 to exchange experiences in building strong people's armed forces and armies.

Major General Kenkham Senglathon, Deputy Defence Minister and General Chief of Staff of the Lao army, arrived in Ha Noi on April 20 for an official friendship visit at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart, Senior Lieutenant General Phung Quang Thanh.

Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phung Quang Thanh said the Lao army delegation's visit will help strengthen the special friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between the two peoples and armies.

The same day, Major General K. Senglathon paid a courtesy visit to Defence Minister General Pham Van Tra.

Minister Tra said the delegation's visit is another sign of the development of the traditional friendship and special solidarity between the two peoples and armed forces.

Major General K. Senglathon briefed the host on the results of his talks with Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phung Quang Thanh.

He said he believed the visit would be a success.

The Lao General Chief of Staff was also received on April 21 by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, who said the general staffs of the two armies should work out cooperation mechanisms for training, information exchange, and the development of a military economy.

Major General K. Senglathon talked with the Deputy PM about orientations for the two general staffs' cooperation, and stressed that the Lao army will continue implementing the protocol signed earlier by the two general staffs.
