Overseas Vietnamese awarded certificates of merit


Hanoi (VNA) – The Association of Overseas Vietnamese in the Czech Republic and four overseas Vietnamese on July 21 received Prime Ministerial certificates of merit for their contributions to the development of the Vietnamese community.

The four individuals include Hoang Dinh Thang from the Czech Republic, Jonathan Hanh Nguyen from the Philippines, Professor Tran Thanh Van and Doctor Le Tran Thanh Kim Ngoc from France.

General Director of the Pan-Pacific Export-Import limited company, Jonathan Hanh Nguyen, has invested 120 million USD in Vietnam since 1990. He also played a role in the opening of Vietnam-Philippines official air route in 1984.

Professor Tran Thanh Van and his wife, Dr Le Tran Thanh Kim Ngoc, have assisted Vietnam ’s science sector in international cooperation and offered scholarships for outstanding Vietnamese students.

In the 1960’s, they set up an organisation to help Vietnamese children. Since then, their association has raised fund for building and running three SOS centres in the Central Highlands Da Lat city, the imperial Hue city and central Quang Binh province.

The Overseas Vietnamese Association in Czech was awarded the Foreign Minister’s certificate of merit for their efforts in building the Vietnamese community and contributing to developing Vietnam-Czech relations in 2003.

The Czech Republic ’s Association of Overseas Vietnamese President Hoang Dinh Thang has also received an honourable certificate from the Czech insurance company, VZP, in recognition of his efforts in ensuring health for the overseas Vietnamese community living in the country.
