Reaction to the Chinese plan to develop international tourism in Hoang Sa archipelago

In response to question from the media regarding the release by the Chinese National People's Congress of "A number of comments on the development of Hainan international tourism", including promotion of tourism in Vietnam's Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nguyen Phuong Nga on January 4th, 2010 said:

"Vietnam reaffirms its indisputable sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos. The Chinese move constitutes a serious violation of Vietnamese sovereignty and runs counter to the common understanding of the leadership of the two countries, causing tension and further complicating the situation in the Eastern Sea. Vietnam asks China to immediately end this activity."
