Ambassador's new year greetings and best wishes
I have a great pleasure to extend our warmest seasonal greetings to all Vietnamese people and friends in Greece on the occasion of the New Year 2012 and the Vietnamese Traditional Tet for the Year of the Dragon.
During the last year, many of our compatriots in Greece have been working days and nights to keep their business activities running and as a result help retain jobs for many Vietnamese and Greek people, generating income and contributing to the revenue of the country. At the same time, other Vietnamese have tried their best to positively continue their work and/or study. These efforts and attitude are especially meaningful given the state of the Greek economy and the austere fiscal policy of the Greek Government. It is even more appreciated that despite such difficulties our compatriots have spared their time and made efforts to take part in activities to enhance community cohesion and mutual assistance as well as ones towards the Homeland.
The recent formation of the Vietnamese Subgroup under the auspices of the Greece – Viet Nam Friendship Association creates a new momentum for uniting the Greece-based descendants of the legendary Dragon and Fairy and is a contribution to friendship and solidarity between the Vietnamese people and the Greek people. This is a significant result of second Congress of the Association held last October. At this Congress, the Association also passed resolutions that have long-term impacts on its course, e.g. the decision to broaden the base of the Association by attracting all Greek people, anyone who supports the growth of Hellenic-Vietnamese friendship and to expand comprehensively the Association’s activities in all fields, such as social, economic, trade, investments, tourism, culture and so on.
The year 2011 was the very first year into being of the Embassy of Viet Nam in this beautiful country of proud history and culture heritage. The Vietnamese compatriots have so far lent the Embassy their trust and support and the Embassy has tried its best to respond to the needs and wishes of the Vietnamese community. Prime importance shall always be attached to the work with the community through Embassy’s pro-active exchanges and cooperation, providing assistance, support, facilitating consular services and ensuring citizens protection. The Embassy shall work with the community and the Greek Government to help all Vietnamese living, working and studying in Greece to have their right status as provided by the Greek laws and in accordance with guidelines, policies and laws of Viet Nam.
The decision to open the Embassy of Viet Nam in Greece at the time the host country is facing unprecedented challenges vividly indicates Vietnam’s sincere desire to foster the traditional solidarity with the Greek people and build it into one of multi-faceted, long-term and win-win cooperation between the two countries on the basis of mutual respect and future orientation.
In welcoming the Vietnamese Traditional New Year for the Year of the Dragon, I sincerely wish our compatriots in Greece, all our elders, our brothers and sisters, our youth and children good health, good luck, happiness and prosperity!
I wish the Greek – Viet Nam Friendship Association, the Vietnamese Subgroup develop more rapidly and strongly, thus making worthy contributions to the growing friendship between Viet Nam and Greece!
I wish each and every friend of Viet Nam in Greece good health and success!
