Opening ceremony of international trade fair - EXPOCOMER in the capital city of Panama

On March 23rd 2011, the annual 29th International Trade Fair - EXPOCOMER was inaugurated at the Atlapa Convention Center in the capital city of Panama. Costa Rica’s President Mrs. Laura Chinchilla Miranda was the guest of honor and keynote speaker at the opening ceremony. Panama’s President Ricardo Martinelli attended the ceremony and gave a speech. The fair will last until March 26th 2011.

The 29th EXPOCOMER took place in the context of the world beginning its recovery process following the global crisis and Panama has overcome the crisis as well as enjoys its development opportunities while striving to get approval for Free Trade Agreements with other countries to strengthen export capacity and competitiveness of Panama’s economy.

Participating in EXPOCOMER this year are more than 500 companies from 35 countries with a display area of 9.500square meters divided into 634 booths. The U.S., China, Taiwan, Brazil, Mexico and India are among countries with the outstanding participation. Over 10 U.S. companies attended, and India increased from 10 in 2010 to 42 pavilions this year with mainly textiles and garments on display. The host country Panama focused on exhibits of agricultural products to search for export markets and introduction of key national projects such as the expansion of the Canal, Tocumen International Airport, plans to develop the national and urban road systems to attract investment capital.

Representing Vietnam at the event is VIETPA, S. A. (Vietnam - Panama) with Mr. Le The Tam as General Manager, displaying products of construction and interior decoration materials of high quality manufactured in Vietnam. VIETPA, S. A. is the first enterprise with offices in Panama, both in the capital city and in the Colon free trade zone. This is the 4th consecutive year the Company participates in EXPOCOMER.

Vietnam’s Ambassador to the Republic of Panama, Mr. Hoang Cong Thuy attended the opening ceremony and visited the pavilion of VIETPA. Within the framework EXPOCOMER 2011, Ambassador Hoang Cong Thuy had contact with leaders of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of  Panama for discussion on the possibilities of promoting economic and trade relations between the two countries and of encouraging businesses to approach each other's markets. The ambassador also visited the booths of other countries such as Cuba, Mexico, Bolivia, El Salvador, Colombia, Paraguay, Taiwan, etc.
