Viet Nam elected as member of ILO governing body

(VNA - 7/6/2011) - Viet Nam was elected as an official member of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) governing body at the 100 th ILO General Assembly session in Geneva on June 6.

The ILO governing body includes 56 regular and 66 deputy members of three groups: government, employers and workers. Viet Nam is a regular member of the government group.

Viet Nam has been a deputy member of the ILO governing body for three consecutive terms, from June 2002 to 2011.

As an ILO governing body member, Viet Nam has the right of voting for ILO General Director and together with other members of the governing body putting forth orientations for and supervising the operations of the ILO General Director and the ILO office.

Viet Nam also has the right to vote on decisions on committees, programmes and budget to submit to the General Assembly and approve the agenda and preparations for the General Assembly’s sessions.
The Government group includes 28 regular representatives with 10 permanent government seats held by States of chief industrial importance. They are Brazil , China , France , Germany , India , Italy , Japan , the Russian Federation , the United Kingdom and the United States .

Elections for the governing body are held every three years.

The 100 th session of the ILO General Assembly takes place from June 1 to 17 with the participation of more than 3,000 delegates from 183 ILO members countries and international organisations as well as guests who are high-ranking leaders of countries worldwide./.
