EU to grant 20 million EURO to help Viet Nam's poverty reduction strategy


Ha Noi (VNA) -- The European Union (EU) will grant 20 million EURO as non-refundable aid to help Viet Nam implement a comprehensive strategy on economic growth and poverty alleviation.

 

An agreement between the Vietnamese Government and the EU on the project entitled "Strategy on growth and poverty alleviation support in Viet Nam" within the Framework of the poverty reduction credit programme, the third stage, was signed in Ha Noi on Thursday by Vietnamese Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Hong Phuc and Marcus Cornado - Ambassador and Chief representative of the EU mission in Viet Nam.

 

The programme aims to reduce poverty while maintaining strong economic growth in Viet Nam by supporting economic restructuring and establishing institutions listed in the Government's comprehensive strategy on growth and poverty reduction.

 

Of the sum, 15 million EURO will be contributed to the poverty reduction fund. The remainder,  5 million EURO will be granted to several Government agencies, including the Ministry of Finance, the State Bank and State Auditing Agency, to reform public financial management.
