Construction Minister Nguyen Hong Quan was adamant that Cuba’s national food security would be secured after touring of several rice cooperatives in eastern Cuba between Sept. 24-25.
The Guillermon Moncada cooperative in Holguin province is now the proud owner of an average yearly yield of 6 tonnes of rice a ha thanks to techniques and experience provided by Vietnamese experts.
The cooperative has benefited from a project, called Family-Sized Rice Farming, that was deployed in 2002 with Viet Nam’s assistance.
Viet Nam has also sent experts to help Cuban families organise themselves into rice-farming cooperatives using Vietnamese farming techniques, from rice seedings to the drying of rice. (VNA)
