Tanzanian President visits Viet Nam


Ha Noi, Dec. 1 (VNA) - President of the United Republic of Tanzania Benjamin William Mkapa arrived in Ha Noi on Wednesday afternoon, begining his four-day official visit to Viet Nam at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Tran Duc Luong.

 

After a red-carpet welcoming ceremony, Tanzanian President Mkapa was received by President Tran Duc Luong, who expressed his hope that following the Tanzanian top leader's visit, the two countries will usher in a new period of cooperation.

 

In reply, Tanzanian President Mkapa expressed his admiration for Viet Nam's past struggle for national liberation and reunification as well as its sound achievements in the on-going renewal process.

 

He said he considered the visit as an opportunity for Tanzania to study Viet Nam's experiences of national construction and development, as well as discuss measures to raise the two countries' cooperation to a level to meet their people's aspirations.

 

After the reception, President Luong held talks with his Tanzanian counterpart.
