General Secretary pledges to effectively use EU aid
During the reception of the President of the European Union Jose Manuel Barroso on November 26, General Secretary Nong Duc Manh said that his first visit to Vietnam since the establishment of the two sides’ diplomatic ties in 1990 was an important milestone in Vietnam-EU relations.

The Vietnam’s general secretary praised the results in the EU president’s visit, including the official announcement on the negotiations for a comprehensive partnership and cooperation agreement between the EU and Vietnam as well as agreements to make the two sides’ relations more stable and effective.
He also appreciated the role of EU as a leading economic, scientific and technological center of the world, and thanked the president, the EU and its members for their help in Vietnam’s national construction and international integration.
He stressed that Vietnam would wisely use the assistance from foreign countries, including EU countries.
During the meeting, President of the European Union Jose Manuel Barroso said that he was very impressed by Vietnam’s dynamic development and great achievements, especially in poverty reduction.
He appreciated the position and role of Vietnam in ASEAN and the region, and said that he believed in a success of the renewal process.
He asserted that the EU attached importance to multilateral relations with Vietnam and promised to give more assistance to Vietnam. (CPV)
