Deputy PM calls for more World Bank aid
While receiving the WB Vice President for Operations Policy and Country Services, Joachim von Amsberg, Hung informed his guest about Vietnam’s situation and preparations for the 2011-2015 socio-economic development plan and the socio-economic development strategy for the next decade.
He highlighted the issues Vietnam will focus on to promote its sustainable development, including infrastructure development, improving the quality of human resources, institutional reforms and completing legal systems to meet integration requirements.
Vietnam will also pay due attention to programmes designed to cope with climate change, develop rural areas, eradicate hunger and reduce poverty, the deputy PM said.
Amsberg congratulated Vietnam on its development achievements, saying that the nation is considered a successful model in terms of effectively using international aid sources.
Vietnam has proven itself to be an attractive destination for investors by making remarkable improvements in infrastructure and institutions, the WB vice president said.
When Vietnam becomes a middle-income nation, Vietnam will have more choices of development assistance tools provided by the WB, he said, adding that the WB is willing to back Vietnam in the implementation of the five-year socio-economic plan.
However, Amsberg said the two sides need to identify prioritised areas and the most effective ways of assistance. In addition to traditional aid models, the two sides could establish new partnerships, he said./.
