Viet Nam extends condolences over sinking of drilling rig in Russia
Local media reported that a Russian rescue helicopter has stopped searching for 39 men in icy waters off Russia’s east coast three days after an oil rig capsized amid a fierce storm.
Two ships and a plane are continuing the search after an Mi-8 helicopter completed its mission, transport officials said.
Fourteen survivors and 14 bodies have been found after the Kolskaya drilling platform sank while being towed to Sakhalin Island on Sunday.
About half the people on board the rig at the time it capsized were not authorized to be there.
According to regulations, only the captain and a small crew are allowed on board while the rig is being towed.
