Viet Nam extends condolences over floods and car accident in Russia

(VGP – 09/07/2012) - State President Truong Tan Sang extended Monday his condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin over the recent flash floods and car accident that caused huge losses to human life and property.

On the same day, Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, on behalf of the Vietnamese Government, paid tribute to the Russian victims at Russia’s Embassy in Ha Noi.

Flash floods caused by torrential rain in Russia’s Krasnodar region on July 7 killed 171, injured 525 others and made over 26.500 homeless. Electricity, water and transport systems were destroyed.

Also on the same day, at least 14 Russian pilgrims were killed in a car accident in Ukraine.

Russian news reports said the pilgrims were headed for the Holy Dormition Monastery in western Ukraine’s Pochayev, one of the major monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
