Viet Nam attends ASEAN consultative meeting

Vientiane, Oct. 22 (VNA) - Assistant to the Foreign Minister Nguyen Trung Thanh attended the ASEAN consultative meeting in Vientiane, Laos, on Friday.

The meeting brought together diplomats, economists, and general directors from 10 ASEAN member countries and representatives from the ASEAN secretariat to discuss and then finalise documents to be submitted to the 10th ASEAN summit scheduled for late November in Laos.

The documents include the Vientiane Action Plan, action plans for the ASEAN Security Community and the ASEAN Socio-cultural Community, and preparatory plans for a summit among Cambodia, Laos, Viet Nam, and Myanmar, as well as for other summits between ASEAN and Japan, China, the Republic of Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand.

Earlier on Thursday, ASEAN senior economic officials met in an informal meeting in Vientiane. They discussed a draft agreement on ASEAN's 11 prioritised areas for integration, a protocol on prioritised areas, and an action plan for the agreement. These draft documents will be submitted to the coming ASEAN Summit.
