Party delegation attends Portuguese Communist Party Congress
Paris (VNA) - A Party delegation, led by Tong Thi Phong, Secretary of and Head of the Commission for Mass Mobilisation of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee (CPV CC), attended the 17th congress of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) from Nov. 26-28.
The congress passed a number of important documents including a resolution on peace and solidarity among nations, and elected a 176 member executive committee. The new executive committee convened its first meeting to elect a 22-member political commission, a 10-member secretariat, and a seven-member central inspectorate committee. Jeronimo de Sousa was elected as General Secretary of the PCP.
Addressing the closing session, former PCP General Secretary Carlos Carvalhas stressed that the communist and revolutionary nature and the viewpoint of Marxism-Leninism help PCP enhance its unity for revolutionary struggle.
The Vietnamese delegation conveyed a message of congratulations from the CPV CC to General Secretary G. Sousa and other PCP leaders.
The delegation was received by Domingos Abrantes, Politburo member of the PCP Central Committee and met with many international delegations.
