Viet Nam, Thailand boost cooperation in bird flu prevention

Ha Noi (VNA) – Viet Nam and Thailand have agreed upon a faster information exchange mechanism to promote their cooperation in monitoring bird flu and conducting prevention measures as well as their co-ordination with international organisations in fighting the disease.

The agreement was made as Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan received his Thai counterpart Chaturon Chaisang in Ha Noi during the Thai Deputy PM’s visit to Viet Nam from Dec. 17-20.

The two Deputy PMs shared a common viewpoint regarding the scale and the risk of a reoccurrence of bird flu.

Deputy PM Chaturon Chaisang, who is co-Chairman of the Thai Committee for Bird Flu Control, said Thailand will send experts to attend a seminar on avian influenza in Viet Nam next year.

The two Deputy PMs expressed their pleasure at the development of the Viet Nam- Thailand relationship, particularly after the first joint cabinet meeting in February and the signing of 10 documents, including a joint agreement on the two countries’ cooperation framework in the first decade of the 21st century.

They agreed to urge relevant ministries and branches to actively implement those agreements, in line with the recent rapid expansion of bilateral cooperation.

The Deputy PMs were unanimous in their plan to continue boosting friendly and cooperative ties between the two countries within the framework of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations as well as regional and international forums and organisations.

During his stay in Viet Nam, Deputy PM Chaturon Chaisang also met with Public Health Minister Tran Thi Trung Chien and Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Cao Duc Phat. He visited some poultry farms in the northern province of Ha Tay and the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.
