Vice President applauds VN-Laos ties at military meeting

Vietnam News: The long-standing friendship and comprehensive ties between Viet Nam and Laos and the Parties of both nations have been further reinforced and developed, said Vice President Truong My Hoa.

Hoa made the remark yesterday at a reception for a Lao military delegation led by Politburo member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Minister of National Defence Lieutenant General Duangchay Phichit who is on a working visit to Viet Nam.

The Viet Nam and Lao militaries have stood shoulder-to-shoulder, shared joys and sorrows and scarified their lives to the cause of national independence for each nation, Hoa said; today, the two militaries and two ministries of national defence are continuing this long-standing bond of friendship, solidarity and comprehensive co-operation.

Phichit replied that he had been assigned by the Lao government to confer orders and medals of the Lao State on 42 units and 284 officials of Viet Nam Ministry of National Defence on the occasion to the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Viet Nam People's Army last year.

Phichit expressed deep gratitude for the great support Laos has received from Viet Nam's State, Party, Army and people in its previous national struggle and present national construction and defence.

Laos presentation of high distinction upon Viet Nam army units and individuals, Hoa said, is uplifting to the spirit of the People's Army, especially that of members who had participated in combat in Laos./.
