Viet Nam, India pledge further cooperation
New Delhi (VNA) - Viet Nam and India vowed to boost military cooperation during talks in New Delhi on Mar. 4 between a visiting Vietnamese military delegation led by Defence Minsiter General Pham Van Tra and an Indian military delegation headed by Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
The Vietnamese delegation arrived in New Delhi on Mar. 3 for a five-day visit to India.
Minister Tra apprised his host of Viet Nam's military policy and views on terrorism.
The Vietnamese general reviewed the traditional cooperation between the two countries, including military ties. He said the time-honoured traditional friendship between Viet Nam and India which was built and fostered by late Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh and Indian Prime Minister Jawalah Nehru has been consolidated and developed. Under the motto of "Reliable partners, comprehensive cooperation", the Viet Nam-India relationship has been lifted to new heights in all political, economic, cultural, scientific-technological fields as well as in national defence and security, Minister Tra said.
Gen. Tra expressed his thanks to the Indian Defence Minister for India's precious assistance to Vietnamese People's Army (VPA). He said he hoped military relations between the two nations would be further expanded.
Minister Pranab Mukherjee affirmed India's readiness to enhance cooperation with and assistance to the VPA.
The two Defence Ministers also discussed regional and international issues of common concern.
Minister Tra invited his Indian counterpart to visit Viet Nam, and the latter accepted.
While in New Delhi, Minister Tra had working sessions with Indian Minister of External Affairs K. Natwar Singh, National Security Adviser M. K. Narayanan, the commander of the Indian Army's services, and visited the Indian National Defence Institute. He also visited a number of industrial establishments of India's National Defence Ministry./.
