Viet Nam, Laos cooperate in safeguarding border security
(VNA) - The Viet Nam-Laos Border Committee and the Border Committee of Laos' Savannakhet and Viet Nam's Quang Binh province held their annual meeting in southern Laos province of Savannakhet on August 22 to discuss cooperation in safeguarding border security.
The two sides reviewed the implementation of the minutes from the 14th border committee session between Laos and Viet Nam and the working agrement between the border committees of Savannakhet and Quang Binh provinces which was signed in November, 2004.
They noted with satisfaction that Quang Binh and Savannakhet provinces have been cooperating well in managing their common border, ensuring security and a normal life for their people.
Participants focused their discussions on measures to prevent free immigration through the borderline, illegal house construction and marriages as well as to stop the smuggling and devastation of natural resources. They agreed to further boost cooperation for economic development in the border region, thus contributing to improving the local people's lives.
