Viet Nam appoints first Consul General to Lao northern province

(VNA): Phongsavad Boupha, Lao Deputy Foreign Minister, stressed the importance of the mission taken up by Nguyen Duc Hanh, the first Vietnamese Consul General to Luang Prabang province.

The Lao official said as bilateral ties between Viet Nam and Laos have been taken to a new height of development, the Consul General's mission in Laos' northern provinces is a difficult task.

The Vietnamese should actively contribute to strengthening the special friendship and solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries' border provinces, Phongsavad said.

As Luang Prabang is home to world cultural heritage sites, he also advised the Consul General to make cooperative ties between the two countries' business circles more effective, and help boost bilateral cooperation in tourism.

The Lao official said he highly appreciated the traditional relations between the two countries in general as well as between the people of Luang Prabang and the local Vietnamese community in particular./.
