UN Secretary- General special envoy praises Viet Nam's efforts in HIV/AIDS control

Dr. Nafis Sadik, special envoy of the UN Secretary General for HIV/AIDS, has praised Viet Nam's good performance in HIV/AIDS control activities, especially the National Assembly's approval of the Law on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control.

Dr. Nafis Sadik was speaking with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung who received the special envoy and her delegation in Ha Noi on Sept. 20 during their official visit to Viet Nam. She also praised Viet Nam for working out a national strategy on HIV/AIDS prevention and said she was ready to share her experiences in HIV/AIDS control with officials in Viet Nam.

PM Dung said he believed that Viet Nam-UN relations would continue to make excellent progress, particularly in areas relating to poverty reduction and epidemic prevention.

The PM said Viet Nam had devised a strategy for sustainable development, in which the country attached importance to promoting economic growth as well as addressing social problems.

Viet Nam had established a national committee for HIV/AIDS control, worked out a national strategy on HIV/AIDS prevention, and issued the Law on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control, he said.

The PM thanked the UN for its assistance to Viet Nam in various fields, including HIV/AIDS prevention. He expected that the UN will continue to help Viet Nam in all these areas.(VNA)
