Viet Nam, Laos power up drug trafficking fight

Viet Nam and Laos have agreed to increase the exchange of information and cooperation in personnel training regarding the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.

Minister of Public Security Gen. Le Hong Anh and Soubanh Srithirath, Minister to the President’s Office and Chairman of the National Commission for Drug Control and Supervision of Laos, reached the consensus during their meeting in Vientiane, on July 31.

The two ministers also agreed to beef up cooperation within multilateral frameworks in an effort to crack down the trafficking and abuse of drugs between and inside the two countries.

They also decided to work together more closely on raising community awareness, particularly for those who live along their shared border, on laws and the danger of drugs.

At the meeting, host and guest both praised their efforts in the fight against drug crimes in each country as well as the coordination between the national committees for drug control of Viet Nam and Laos.

Minister Anh took the occasion to grant 2 billion VND (125,000 USD) to the Lao commission to buy equipment to serve drug combating work.- (VNA)
