Viet Nam commits to Francophone community’s peace goal

Viet Nam will continue to contribute to the ultimate goal of maintaining peace and security as set by the United Nations and of the International Francophone Organisation (OIF) and try its best to promote the prosperity and development of every OIF member nation.

The remarks were delivered by Vietnamese Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong, at the 23 rd Francophone Ministerial Meeting (FMM) which opened in Laos ’ capital Vientiane on November 20.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Government, Minister Cuong thanked OIF General Secretary Abdou Diouf and member countries for their support in Viet Nam’s bid for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) 2008-2009.

He also welcomed OIF’s efforts in adopting institutional reforms as agreed at the 21 st AMM in Madagascar.

The meeting was attended by 68 country delegations, of which 55 are OIF members.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Lao President Choummaly Sayasone said the country is proud to be chosen as the event’s host nation, regarding this as an important recognition of the nation and the people of Laos.

He highlighted the increasing role of the OIF in the region and in the world as well as the ever-growing cooperation between its member nations in cultural and socio-economic development, where language is an essential element. (VNA)
