Vietnam, Iraq increase ties in agricultural cooperation

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has proposed that Iraq join hands with the Southeast Asian country in building oil refineries.

Receiving Iraqi Minister of Trade Abdul Fala Hassan Al-Sudani in Hanoi on December 11, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai said Vietnam is willing to cooperate with Iraq in agriculture and suggested that Iraq cooperate with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) to tap crude oil in Iraq.

He spoke highly of the results of 17th meeting of the Vietnam - Iraq Intergovernmental Committee, particularly the agreements on supplying rice and other farm produce for Iraq, as well as expanding cooperation in agriculture and oil and gas.

The Iraqi minister expressed his pleasure at the agreements reached between the two countries, particularly those on expanding cooperation in agriculture. He expressed the hope that the two countries will enhance their cooperation in services industries and infrastructure investment.

Iraq would consider building an oil refinery and some farm produce processing factories in Vietnam, he added.

Earlier at the 17th meeting of the Vietnam - Iraq Inter-governmental Committee on Cooperation, Cao Duc Phat, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and Chairman of the Vietnamese section, and minister Fala Hassan Al-Sudan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

The meeting reviewed the two countries’ bilateral cooperation period beginning from the 16th meeting in March 2002 and interrupted by the war in Iraq from 2003-2007.

At the meeting, the two sides assessed the efficiency of their treaties and agreements to promote cooperation and trade signed in the past, and work out concrete solutions to boost bilateral cooperation, particularly in economy and trade, in the coming time. (VOV)
