High-level national assembly delegation visits Switzerland

National Assembly Vice Chairman Huynh Ngoc Son on September 8 held talks with Vice President of the Swiss National Council Chiara Simoesschi Cortesi as part of his working visit to the European country from September 5-10.

Hanoi (VNA)- Host and guest expressed their delight at the recent fine development of bilateral relations, which culminated in a visit to Vietnam by Swiss President Pascal Couchepin in August.

Son thanked the Swiss Government for its official development assistance in poverty reduction, environment and climate change as well as its credit package supply.

“These projects have contributed to the national development in Vietnam during the post war and global integration era,” said the senior legislator.

Two-way trade is also on surge and the two countries have signed a number of accords on education and training cooperation.

Son called on the Swiss Government to extend further assistance in ODA and personal training at the doctoral level.

In return, the Swiss legislator welcomed the Vietnamese delegation as a positive sign of increased bilateral relations, especially in legislation.

Simonesschi-Cortesi said that Switzerland was proud to contribute to Vietnam ’s achievements through its technical and economic assistance projects.

She also expressed strong belief in Vietnam ’s success in achieving its economic development and modernization goals with its World Trade Organisation membership.

The event was concluded with the two sides reaching a consensus to further the exchange of views on multi-lateral forums, especially on parliamentary forums such as the International Parliamentary Union and the Francophonie Parliamentary Association (APF).

During its stay in Switzerland, the Vietnamese delegation met with a Vietnam-Friendly Parliamentarians’ Group led by its head Didier Berberat and Anjuska Weil, President of the Switzerland-Vietnam Friendship Association.

The Vietnamese law makers also held a working session with Anton Thalmann, Deputy State Secretary of the Swiss Foreign Ministry.
