Viet Nam elected to UN Social Development Commission

(VNA-03/02/2012) - Viet Nam, together with Nepal and Bangladesh, have become Asia’s representatives in the UN Commission for Social Development for the 2012- 2015 term.

Viet Nam’s membership of the commission shows the international community’s high appreciation toward the country’s achievements in social development over the past years as well as its contribution to the global social growth.

Being the commission’s member, Viet Nam will have chances to make more contributions to policy making and goal and action plan building on a global scale, promoting social progress and strengthening information exchange among governments in developing and implementing social development policies on the national scale.

The Commission is holding its 50th annual session at the UN Headquarters in New York from Feb. 1-10, focusing on poverty eradication, full and productive employment and socially inclusive policies.

Established in 1946, the Commission is a functional body of the Economic and Social Council. Its 46 members are elected for four-year terms in office./.
