PM urges UN to preserve peace, stability in East Sea

The Government chief raised the point on May 27 during his meeting with Under-Secretary-General for Field Support Ameerah Haq who is in Viet Nam to attend the launching ceremony of a peacekeeping center in the country.
PM Dung took the occasion to thank United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for raising his voice over the tension in the East Sea sparked by China’s illegal placement of the drilling rig Haiyang Shiyou 981 in Viet Nam’s waters.
As an active and responsible member of the United Nations, Viet Nam commits to doing its best to consolidate peace and promote development on global scale, affirmed PM Dung.
For her part, Ameerah Haq said he will convey PM Dung’s message to Secretary General Ban Ki-moon so that the United Nations will take more practical actions to maintain peace and stability in the region and the world.
She went on to say that the launch of the peacekeeping center in Viet Nam will help boost cooperation between the country and the United Nations in advancing the global peace and security agenda.
The United Nations official praised Viet Nam’s participation in global peacekeeping operations as these tasks are becoming increasingly complicated and dangerous.
