The interview revolved around the outcomes of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s January 12-14 working visit to Cambodia at the invitation of his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen and ways to realise commitments made by their leaders.

As a vivid manifestation of solidarity, friendship and close attachment between Viet Nam and Cambodia, his first visit abroad in 2014 took place on the occasion of the 35 th anniversary of the victory of the southwest border defence war and the joint victory of Viet Nam and Cambodia over the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime (January 7).

Both countries’ leaders expressed their strong will to deepen the fine neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term stability between Viet Nam and Cambodia, she said.

Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni and Prime Minister Hun Sen underlined that the Cambodian people always remember the valuable support and sacrifices made by the Vietnamese people and volunteer soldiers who fought with Cambodian fellows against the genocidal regime, standing side-by-side with the country on its path of reconstruction and development.

Nga said PM Dung made it clear that Viet Nam, a loyal friend of Cambodia, will spare no efforts to assist Cambodia for peace, independence, stability, prosperity and wellbeing in the country.

About what both countries should do to foster trade cooperation, Nga said it is advisable to perfect the law system, creating a legal framework for investment and business as soon as possible.

In the foreseeable future, Viet Nam and Cambodia should enforce the Protocol amending the Agreement on Investment Encouragement and Protection and look to the early signing of the double taxation avoidance agreement.

Nga stressed the need to accelerate administrative reform, issue more investment incentives and ramp up infrastructure to improve enterprises’ competitiveness

She also took the occasion to call for faster border demarcation for a borderline of peace, stability, friendship and prosperity, as part of efforts to push socio-economic progress in frontier areas.

According to Nga, the strengthening of people-to-people exchange, particularly among those living in border localities, will also bring about long-term benefits.
