Deputy PM Minh welcomes new Norwegian Ambassador

VGP – Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh suggested Viet Nam and Norway should focus on strengthening economic, trade and investment linkages in the coming years while receiving new Norwegian Ambassador to Viet Nam, Siren Gjerme Eriksen, on Tuesday.

He expressed his hope that Ambassador Siren Gjerme Eriksen would encourage her country’s investors to seek investment opportunities in such fields like ship-building, oil and gas, aquaculture, telecommunication among others.

Viet Nam will create favorable conditions for the Norwegian diplomat to successfully fulfill her office term, said Deputy PM, FM Minh.

For her part, the Ambassador affirmed that her country regards Viet Nam as a major partner in Asia and will continue official development assistance for Viet Nam to cope with climate change and prevent natural disasters.

She also pledged to boost the free trade agreement talks between Viet Nam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) of Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.

Last year, the EFTA signed a memorandum of understanding with Viet Nam, recognizing the country’s market economy status and agreeing to kick-start the bilateral FTA negotiations./.
