Announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on changes in regulations of entry and exit between Viet Nam and Laos
(MOFA) - On 3 April 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lao People’s Democractic Republic informed the Embassy of Socialist Republic of Viet Nam in Vientiane of the various comprehensive measures that have been undertaken by the Lao Government in order to prevent and control Covid-19, including revised entry and exit rules towards foreigners, regardless of their nationality.
In that connection, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam would like to inform and advise Vietnamese citizens on the following:
- The Lao Government has completely closed all active international border gates. Entry and exit of travelers through these gates shall be strictly prohibited, with the exception of entry or exit for the cargo transportation or emergency situations. This measure shall be effective from 3 to 19 April 2020.
- The Lao Government has closed all main and secondary border gates along the Viet Nam – Laos borderline, effective from 19 March until 20 April 2020.
- The Vietnamese Government has temporarily suspended all cross-border movement for people at the main and secondary border gates and trails along the Viet Nam – Laos borderlines. The suspension has been in effect since 1 April 2020.
- Vietnamese citizens are advised to minimize travels between the two countries during this time, comply with the disease control measures of Laos, regularly keep themselves updated on the regulations of both countries.
