Vietnam strongly condemns the brutal terrorist act in Groznyi, the Russian Federation

ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT BY MR. LE DZUNG, THE SPOKESMAN
OF VIETNAM’S MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS ON 10th MAY 2004

RIA-Novosti: Please advise Vietnam’s reaction to the explosion in Groznyi precisely on the anniversary day of the victory over the Nazis on May 9^th, 2004, killing and injuring many people including the Chechen President Kadyrov? Please provide Vietnam’s viewpoints on Russia’s staunch position on fighting terrorism of the Russian Federation in general and the Chechen Republic in particular?

Answer:

We are stunned by the news that on May 9^th, 2004, at Groznyi city an explosion occurred when a lot of people were attending anniversary celebration of the victory over the Nazis, killing and injuring many, including the incumbent president A. Kadyrov of the Chechen Republic. The Vietnamese Government and people wish to convey our deepest condolence to the Russian Government and people and the victims’ families.

We strongly condemn this brutal terrorist incident and hold that the culprits should be severely punished. Vietnam supports Russia’s fight against terrorism to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, hoping that the Russian Federation will soon overcome the consequences of this terrorist act and stablize the situation.
